Working group of Asian Thyroid FNA Cytology was established and the 1st meeting was held at the 12th AOTA congress in Bushan, Korea on Mar. 16, 2017. About 30 doctors attended the meeting, including 11 members from Asian. 11 presentations were carried out after the opening remarks and business meeting by Pro. Kennichi Kakudo. Mainly two topics were discussed on thyroid FNA practice in Asian and how to handle NIFTP in Asian practice. Dr. Lai, Dr. Satoh, Dr. Jain Dr. Liu and Dr. Sule talked about thyroid FNA practice in Taiwan, Japan, Indian, China and Turkey, respectively. Dr. Chan from Korea talked about his NIFTP practice, which was accepted by Modern pathology recently. Dr. Andrey talked about the NIFTP ratio in Asian practices as a group work, which is under revision. Dr. Liu talked about the result of validation study on NIFTP and how to standadize PTC-N. Hot discussion was held on NIFTP ratio, practice in surgical pathology and cytopathology, and BRAF mutation in Asian population.
Since the initial effort by our original members, several publications on thyroid FNA cytology have been accepted for publication or are under revision. One of them includes the very first and landmark publication on the low rates of NIFTP in Asian countries, which will be presented here today by Andrey Bychkov. Four more papers were published in the NIFTP special issue in the Journal of Basic and Clinical Medicine. Three papers on NIFTP were from our members Chan et al., Liu et al.,Canberk et al. and Kakudo et al.

We have published a new textbook on thyroid FNA cytology as displayed on the desk. All three editors are members of this working group. It was published in 2016 as the first English language textbook of thyroid FNA cytology from Asia, and it is the only textbook dealing with borderline/precursor thyroid tumors and incorporates the 4thedition of WHO classification. The second edition will be published in 2018. Many of our working group members will contribute to the second edition as an activity of this working group, and the deadline for the submission of manuscripts will be the end of 2017.
